Cookies

The site uses cookies to enhance your on-line experience. A 'cookie' is nothing more than a small file that your Web browser will place on your hard drive. It allows us to remember you and keep track of preferences and passwords. For example, cookies allow you to fill out an online registration form or other online form. You can, of course, set your browser to reject cookies - but keep in mind that this may affect the experience you have on the site.

The site's various registration forms require users to give us contact information (like their name, e-mail, and postal address), financial information (like their credit card numbers), and demographic information (like their zip code).

We will not release or disclose specific information about you, including information about your individual visits to the site or personal information that you provide, such as your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, credit card number, insurance policy number, etc. to any outside parties, unless required to do so by law or court order, or upon your prior written consent. ESA retains the right to collect information about general use of its products for the purpose of improving them and helping to facilitate their use.

ESA (including its employees and agents) assumes no responsibility for consequences resulting from the use of the information herein, or from use of the information obtained at linked Internet addresses, or in any respect for the content of such information, including (but not limited to) errors or omissions, the accuracy or reasonableness of factual or scientific assumptions, studies or conclusions, the defamatory nature of statements, ownership of copyright or other intellectual property rights, and the violation of property, privacy, or personal rights of others. ESA is not responsible for, and expressly disclaims all liability for, damages of any kind arising out of use, reference to, or reliance on such information. Software Licenses

You acknowledge that any software available or provided to you on this Web site may contain technology that is subject to strict controls by various agencies of the United States Government pursuant to United States export control laws and regulations. You hereby agree that you will not transfer or export such software from the United States (including, for example, providing such software to any foreign person or entity in the United States) or re-export such software outside the United States in violation of United States export laws and regulations. ESA does not authorize the downloading or exportation of any software or technical data from this Web site to any jurisdiction prohibited by the United States export controls laws and regulations.

Privacy Notice

ESA respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to its Web site. ESA strongly believes that if electronic commerce and online activities are to flourish, consumers must be assured that information provided online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, ESA does the following:

What Information Does ESA Collect?

ESA collects and stores only personal information that our members and visitors knowingly provide. If our privacy policies change, we will notify all users by e-mail or a special announcement placed on the Web site.

From General Users

ESA does not collect any personal information from users browsing its Web site. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page -- are collected. Aggregate data are only used for internal and marketing purposes and do not provide any personally identifying information.

From ESA Members, Conference Registrants, and Other Customers

To gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on www.alarm.org, members and other users are asked to register and provide some limited information. This information is submitted voluntarily. ESA asks users to provide their name, member number (for members), organization name, business phone, and e-mail. Similar information may be submitted through membership applications, conference or seminar registration, publication orders, subscriptions, and training class registrations. Additionally, for some e-mails sent in HTML format by ESA to its members through electronic newsletters, we will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that e-mail. For those e-mails, ESA may monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. Other information collected through this tracking feature includes: e-mail address of a user, the date and time of the user's "click," a message number, name of the list from which the message was sent, tracking URL number and destination page. ESA only uses this information to enhance its products and distribution of those products to its members. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.

How Does ESA Use Data Collected?

ESA uses information voluntarily submitted by members and other customers in the following ways:

ESA Member Services and Products

ESA uses data collected to improve its own Web content; to respond to visitors' interests, needs and preferences; and to develop new products and services.

Disclosures to Third Parties

ESA also makes member contact information available to consumers through the online Member Directory. ESA willingly provides consumers with geographical listings of member electronic life safety, security, and systems professionals upon request. While ESA members agree to abide by the association’s bylaws and code of ethics, ESA does not assume responsibility for the standards or practices of an independent member company. ESA recognizes the Installation Quality (IQ) Certification Program, which offers certification to companies for their efforts at improving the overall quality of their work while combating false alarms. More information about IQ certification is available at the IQ Program website, www.iqcertification.org. Any other questions concerning the business standards or practices of a member company should be addressed to the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org.

On occasion, ESA may also provide limited data to third parties that offer products and services. Users may request ESA refrain from disclosing the data it collects to third parties on the membership application form; an opt-out box is included. Alternatively, users may contact ESA at communications@alarm.org to express their preferences if they determine later that they do not wish to have the information shared.

Credit Card Account Information

ESA does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, ESA submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate clearinghouse.

Linking to ESA

Please e-mail your linking request to communications@alarm.org and include the URL of the page from which you would establish the link. ESA does not allow the use of its content on another Web site without its permission and does not allow its content to be "framed" by another site (you may not link to an ESA Web page inside HTML frames so that the content appears to be part of your site). A link to ESA´s Web site may not be used in the context of an endorsement for any information on your Web site, any company products and/or services, or any situation that is in conflict with the ESA mission.

Advertising Disclaimer

ESA reserves the right to accept or reject any advertisement submitted for ESA´s publications and on its Web sites. However, ESA does not attempt to investigate or verify claims, including claims of compliance with codes and standards, made in advertisements appearing in ESA´s publications and on its Web sites. The appearance of advertising in ESA´s publications and on its Web sites in no way implies endorsement or approval by ESA of any advertising claims or of the advertiser, its product, or services. ESA disclaims any liability whatsoever in connection with advertising appearing in association publications and on its Web sites.
