Introduction

This state licensing guide has been prepared to familiarize you with the licensing requirements in the various states. This document should be used to begin the process of talking to the state regulators and state associations and looking at the referenced law.

It is strongly recommended that you join the Chartered Chapter listed in each state where you do business. It is the state association that has the greatest influence over the licensing law in the states, and the state association will be your greatest aid in getting yourself licensed and keeping up with changes in licensing laws on a timely basis.

This book is dedicated to the NBFAA State Associations without whom it would not be possible. It is the state associations who provided much of the information contained herein.

The other resource available to you is the state regulator. These hardworking individuals toil every day to protect Americans and to help keep our industry professional and safe. Call on these dedicated folks for applications, information or copies of legislation and regulation. Don’t be surprised to get voice mail since regulators are frequently multitasking.

Remember that this is a living, changing document. Each page is subject to change at the will of the legislature and/or regulatory agency of each state. Should you have any questions or suggestions, please contact the Government Relations staff at NBFAA.

DISCLAIMER: THE STATE LICENSING GUIDE ONLY HANDLES LICENSING AT THE STATE LEVEL. MANY LOCALITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE THEIR OWN LICENSING. PLEASE CONTACT THE STATE CHAPTERS OF THE NBFAA TO FIND OUT ABOUT THESE LICENSING ISSUES.
