To accommodate the growing need for telephone numbers in New Mexico, the state was split into two area codes on October 7, 2007. The northwest region of the state has retained the 505 area code while the rest of the state will be under the new 575 area code.
As a result of the area code split, alarm, security services and equipment programmed to dial only a seven-digit telephone number may need to be updated or reprogrammed to dial the full 10-digit number for all local calls in the 505/575 area codes. All long-distance calls will require 1+10-digit dialing.
Beginning October 5, 2008, all customers must use the new dialing procedure for all calls. After the fifth, if customers do not use the new dialing procedure, calls will not complete, and a recording will provide instructions to hang up and dial again.
Reprogramming of alarm and security equipment should take place prior to October 5. To enable verification that equipment recognizes the new 575 area code, special test numbers are available. To test your equipment, call one of these test numbers: 1-575-600-1234, 1-575-580-05785 or 1-575-295-0000.
Questions about the dialing procedure change should be directed to your customer’s local telephone service provider.
The Central Station Alarm Association's Alarm Verification and Notification Procedures Standard (CS-V-01) is entering an ANSI Comment period (BSR/CSAA CS-V-01-200x, Alarm Verification and Notification Procedures Update). The Comment Period will end on September 14, 2008.
The Alarm Verification and Notification Procedures Standard defines methods by which false dispatches can be greatly reduced. It is an update to the 2004 version.
It has been proven that verifying an alarm signal by a monitoring central station will drastically reduce false dispatches. This standard takes verification to its next level by defining multiple call verification, cross zoning, biometric, audio and video verification.
Methods defined herein have been tested and proven to achieve a lower level of false dispatch. Further reduction is possible to achieve using a combination of the methods defined herein.
Please use the following form to make any proposed changes: http://www.csaaul.org/Form_for_Proposals_on_CSAA_Standards_Documents.pdf
and e-mail it to Celia Besore at communications@csaaul.org.

Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) has named Rob Bayless as their new Northwest Regional Sales Manager. In this position, Rob will be responsible for developing new sales and providing on-going service to the DMP authorized dealers in his region, which includes Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.
Prior to joining DMP, Rob was sales manager for a Las Vegas-based home and residential security systems supplier. Before that, he built a strong security background as the owner of his own home security dealership, Minuteman Lock & Security. In addition to his skills as a locksmith, Rob is experienced with commercial alarms, access control and CCTV technology.
Rob was born in Gardiner, ME. He is married with four children and lives in Meridian, Idaho.
Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) announces that the 463G Digital Cellular Communicator is now UL listed for Standard Line Security (ULAA) and complies with a number of ANSI/UL standards. A design change enabled DMP to reduce the price on this plug-in card for the XR500 Series, making it a more affordable method of adding cellular communications between panels and Central Stations.
The 463G is an easy-to-install expansion card that can be used as the primary communication path or as a dependable wireless backup. It provides a direct wireless communications path to any DMP central station receiver. No retransmission of alarm signals between the panel and Central Station means more reliable communications. The 463G works on digital cellular GSM/GPRS data networks over a variety of carriers in the USA and Canada.
The 463G Level “C” card can only be used with DMP XR500 panels using Version 202 software or higher. Version 202 software is now available for download from the DMP website. The UL listed 463G Level “C” Digital Cellular Communicator will begin shipping August 18.
Napco is proud to announce that the new Gemini Low-Profile Transmitter has become available for purchase.
Napco’s latest field-proven Gemini crystal controlled wireless window/door transmitter appeals to home and business owners in search of a transmitter that easily goes unnoticed. Their Low-Profile Transmitter, also known as GEM-TRANSLP virtually disappears in slimline window frames. Its ultra-compact design measures 2.5” x 1” x 0.5” (H x W x D). Each GEM-TRANSLP is tamper supervised and comes with one replaceable lithium PL2032 coin cell battery (five-year battery life, typical). An internal reed switch and external lead (24” mini connector pigtail) is also included for wiring external devices (jumper-selectable).
