There was an overall drop in the nationwide police dispatch rate (alarm dispatches per system per user), despite an increase in installed alarm systems between 1998 and 2004. The dispatch rate showed a 64 percent reduction, while the number of installed alarms increased by 89 percent.

According to a survey of law enforcement nationwide, poorly trained users are the leading cause of false alarms followed by system installation issues. Only a little more than one in 10 police officials believe alarm companies are not doing their best to curtail false dispatches.
