What is NBFAA?
For nearly 60 years, the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has supported the changing needs of its members, the industry and the nation. A non-profit 501(c) 6 trade association, the NBFAA has evolved into the largest professional trade association in the United States with the purpose of representing, promoting and enhancing the growth and professional development of the electronic life safety, security, and integrated systems industry. In cooperation with a federation of state associations, NBFAA provides government advocacy and delivers timely information, professional development tools, products and services that members use to grow and prosper their businesses. A positive advocate for the electronic life safety, security, and integrated systems industry, NBFAA works at all levels to increase awareness about the value of the products and services members provide. The association supports new technology and applications with customized and relevant training and proactively promotes the industry through consumer awareness activities supported by trade and media relations programs. NBFAA also supports legislation and regulations that enhance public safety.
The NBFAA is guided by strong leadership and a commitment to the advancement of technology and professionalism in our industry. This commitment has put the NBFAA on a strong foundation that includes financial stability and recognition as the only professional trade association that works every day on the local, state and national level to address issues vital to the well-being of the industry.
Who are its members?
Member companies specialize in a wide spectrum of services to commercial and residential consumers. NBFAA brings together key individuals from top companies representing five industry components - sales, manufacturing, installation, service, and monitoring. This collective approach allows NBFAA to represent the industry as a whole, while focusing on the varying needs of these individual market sectors. More
The NBFAA’s member companies, which represent more than 70 percent of the market for intrusion and fire/life safety systems, access control, video surveillance and monitoring, are a vital component of public safety. Together they employ more than 500,000 industry professionals, and service millions of residential and commercial accounts.
More than 2,600 electronic life safety, security, and systems businesses in all 50 states and four U.S. territories hold membership in NBFAA.
The diversity of membership includes companies that specialize in single product segments as well as system integrators who provide comprehensive products and services to their customers. The nature of the business demands professional and personalized service.
What is NBFAA Mission?
As a trade association, we represent, promote, and support the industry through a federation of chapters, empowering members to grow their businesses. NBFAA delivers five Mission Components for the benefit of its members, consumers and public safety. By providing these critical components, the association is able to fulfill its mission. NBFAA’s five mission components include: Government Relations, Industry Affairs, Education and Training, Public Relations and Standards.

Networking Opportunities - NBFAA provides networking opportunities through meetings and conferences held throughout the year and across the country. These events offer direct access to the nation’s biggest and best electronic life safety, security, and systems companies. Membership also provides an opportunity to influence decisions that shape and affect the association and the industry through active participation in state and/or national committees.
Communications Services - NBFAA keeps member companies updated on the latest industry information and trends through an array of communications services. These include Newsline, a quarterly print publication; Member Update, a bi-weekly e-newsletter; special member reports (both print and electronic) and www.alarm.org, NBFAA's widely referenced Web site. Through the Members Only section of the NBFAA Web site, members can access state legislative and licensing information, industry research and statistics, and exclusive discounts worth thousands of dollars on business-related products and services.
Discount Programs - NBFAA members have access to a vast array of products and services that easily allow their membership to pay for itself. In addition to the discounted industry training available to members through NTS, members also can benefit from Security America Risk Retention Group, an insurance program developed by NBFAA. SARRG offers extremely affordable general liability and errors & omissions insurance exclusively to NBFAA members. Many other member benefit programs are available that offer savings of both time and money.
